
Andy Rubin, vice president for engineering at Google, announced by Twitter Tuesday that his company is activating half a million Android devices a day. The news comes after Nielsen’s report in March that the Android has surpassed the Apple iOS platform as the most popular smartphone operating system in the United States. According to Rubin, the company’s mobile platform growth continues at a steady 4.4 percent each week.
The Android operating system is compliant with more than 300 different smartphone models. The company is confident that they will be able to sustain a steady rate of growth as they look to introduce tablets, phones, and other Android-enabled gizmos over the next year.
