Things are getting crowded with video chat app Fring, with the newest version (5.1.1.2 for those of you keeping score at home) allowing four-way split-screen video chat optimized for the iPad.
The new version is the first-ever app with four-way vidchat for the iPad–though it works for Fring users across iOS, Android and Nokia platforms, as well–and connects over both WiFi and 3G and 4G cellular data connections while adding Bluetooth support for iPhone users. Also: it’s free.
Aside from any usability issues that will need to be ironed out (given video lag is still problematic within one-on-one vidchat platforms, one assumes it will be an issue with double the people on the call) this is still a boon for small group collaboration among those in different parts of the world.
