A new service from the social platform Meebo lets users check in when they visit their favorite websites. Meebo is a social platform that lets users follow each other around the Web and share the content they’re viewing. Think of it as a cross between social check-in app GetGlue and a non-location based version of Foursquare.
Meebo’s new service lets website owners reward those who visit daily, or use their browsing history to make personalized recommendations. “If you’re a daily user of a Web site, most of the time they treat you pretty anonymously,” Martin Green, Meebo president told The New York Times.
Meebo’s new service aims to change that. Visitors who check in daily at any the company’s 8,000 client sites should soon start feeling like, well, mayors.
