Meet Jason Pollock

Posted By Tiffany Black On June 1, 2011 @ 8:27 am In Blogging and Social Media,Internet and Online Business | 4 Comments

The first time I met Jason Pollock was NOT on Twitter. We met in person because he was a panelist at Inc.’s GrowCo conference [1] in Las Vegas earlier this year. The irony is that Pollock is known for being one of the most influential people on Twitter. I was fascinated to actually meet someone in person that is better known for his online interactions than in-person networking. And I always wonder about people who are put on lists for being influential on social media. Are they as interesting offline as they are online? Pollock exceeded my expectations.

I could endlessly pontificate on how he has worked with Michael Moore and Ashton Kutcher. I could dissect how he got to 90,000-plus Twitter followers (and counting). I could tell you about his goal of using social media to be socially responsible. Or how his film The Youngest Candidate [2] is still creating a buzz.

But I decided it would be better for Pollock to tell you himself.  You will get to know Pollock through his guest editor posts on Inc. Tech today. (He has the honor of being our first guest editor.)  You’ll get the opportunity to ask him how he became a Twitter influencer and what you could take from his best practices for your own social media engagement in our live chat today at 12 noon EST at Inc. Live [3]. You can post your questions here, tweet your questions to @incmagazine [4] with the hashtag #inclive or tune in to ask directly.

What I will share is Pollock’s responses to some of the hardest questions related to social media preference.

TweetDeck or Hootsuite: Neither. I prefer to go to Twitter.com and use the old Twitter interface. I haven’t switched to the new Twitter interface. The Seesmic desktop also has a good user interface.

iPhone, BlackBerry or Android: iPhone

WordPress or Tumblr: Tough choice but WordPress is a better blog platform for functionality. Tumblr is a better tool for building a social community.

Film Photography or Digital Photography: iPhone photography—the camera on the iPhone 4 is great and you don’t have to carry another piece of technology.

Last Movie You Saw: Kickass (on Netflix)

Last App You Added: Tweetbot [5], a new Twitter client only for the iPhone.
