How I Used Social Media to Raise $10,000

In December of 2010 I submitted myself into an online contest that Ford was having for their 2012 Ford Focus. They picked 40 winners and each winner got to give $10,000 to the non-profit of their choice. My dad had recently started Friends of Educational Excellence [1], an education non-profit organization in his hometown of Rochester, N.Y., so I jumped on this opportunity.

In January of 2011 I found out that I was chosen and that my father would get the money. We were so excited! The trip to Madrid was going to be awesome too because we were going to be the first 40 people in the world to test drive the 2012 Ford Focus.

As part of winning, I committed to making three videos about my experience. The first video [2] I did was about my trip to Spain with my father that was part of the prize.  The second video [3] was about my Dad’s non-profit getting the car and how they used it.  The last video [4] shows some of what my Dad did with the prize money including a field trip for the kids. I don’t want to say too much more because the videos will explain a lot. It was a 3-part mini-documentary. I hope you enjoy! :)
