
Would you like your computer screen to be sharper, with more vivid color than it has now, while draining less battery power? Sure you would, but up till now your only option was an organic light-emitting diode (OLED) screen, at a much higher price tag than the LED screen you’re most likely using to read this blog post.
But another alternative is coming soon: Quantum-dot display screens promise all the beauty of OLED, but with none of the priciness.
A new model was unveiled at the Display Week conference by QD Vision, a nanomaterials company focused on lighting and displays. The demo screen was only four inches square and manufacturing challenges still need to be worked out. But QD Vision says its screens will hit the market, at affordable prices, in three to five years.
