Social Gaming Company Kabam Raises $85 Million

It’s not exactly a sign of the much-heralded Rapture, but in social gaming, this is as close to disruption as it gets. Hardcore social gaming company Kabam, creators of Dragons of Atlantis, has just raised $85 million from a host of backers, including Google Ventures and Pinnacle Ventures writes Dean Takahashi.
And while Kabam’s user base numbers significantly less than that of market leader Zynga, there is one clear indication, despite Zynga’s anticipated IPO, that Kabam could potentially rule on the revenue side. True, Zynga boasts some 247 million active users to Kabam’s 7.2 million, but Kabam’s users are willing to put their money where their mouth is, shelling out big bucks for games and spending considerably more time playing—all signs of deep engagement.
