If Microsoft would only fire Steve Ballmer, its stock price would rise substantially. That’s the message from much-admired hedge fund manager David Einhorn, president of Greenlight Capital. Einhorn likened the Microsoft CEO to the hapless cartoon Charlie Brown who can’t kick a football no many how many times he tries. Besides, Einhorn claims, he’s stuck in the past.
Ballmer certainly seems to be letting Google and Apple get ahead of Microsoft, and last year the board withheld some of his bonus because of these shortcomings.
Microsoft’s been fairly quiet on the subject. Not so Einhorn’s investment colleagues, some of whom have publicly agreed with Einhorn’s assessment.
