Apple Finally Offers Defense Against MacDefender Trojan

Some weeks you just can’t catch a break.
Apple took a lot of heat for ignoring the growing numbers of Mac owners who’ve been sucked in by the MacDefender scareware (which promises to clean your computer of nasty viruses but instead installs information to steal your credit card numbers). Finally, in a rare admission of its systems’ vulnerability, Apple officially acknowledged the threat on Wednesday and offered a knowledge base article on how to remove it. By then, of course, that information had already been published in several other places.
In response, MacDefender’s creators have released a brand new trojan aimed at Macs—and named “MacGuard.” Unlike MacDefender this new threat does not require users to enter their passwords before it installs itself.
Your move, Apple.
