Last week, Groupon CEO Andrew Mason reportedly made multiple visits to Foursquare’s New York office; multiple sources close to the situation say this could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship. AllThingsD reports that Groupon and Foursquare—the daily deals behemoth and social location service, respectively—are currently in talks of forming a partnership.

A likely arrangement between the two services would allow users to access Groupon’s deals through check-ins on Foursquare, so users in the vicinity of a venue can meet up with friends and enjoy discounts together. Foursquare would earn revenue from Groupon’s leads, and Groupon would cultivate a more dedicated fan base.

These new rumors come just one week after Groupon announced a deal to distribute Groupon Now, its real-time offers program, through Foursquare competitor Loopt. Currently, Loopt users receive mobile alerts when they’re close to a local deal without needing to open the Groupon app. Loopt currently has five million active users, while Foursquare has nine million.
