Import Foursquare Data into Google Places

A labor-intensive, cut-and-paste process tied to RSS will leave many users disappointed.

“Dance 10, Looks 3″ might be the best way to sum up Google’s idea for Foursquare implementation with Google Places. It’s a great idea, but when paired with RSS, it’s a dud, says MG Siegler at TechCrunch. And that might be the reason neither company is singing this feature’s praises to the rafters.

Siegler notes the process (lots of cutting and pasting) will leave many users saying “meh” rather than “yayy,” especially if they have a long history of check-ins dating back to, say, Dodgeball days. And Google’s lackluster pledge to do their “best” to sync locations up with venues in Google Places is not the biggest confidence booster.

    I think the idea is a good one. They just need to re-think the implementation and make it easier for end-users.  If it was faster and not cut and past it would used more often.  Back to the drawing board.
