Private Jets: The Party Bus of the Sky

As the prices for commercial flights rise higher and higher and the leg room and baggage space of airlines seem to get smaller and smaller, traveling has become an increasing headache for professional or pleasure travelers alike. Unless you are a billionaire or a perhaps a nine-figure millionaire, using a private jet has probably never been a realistic alternative to the crowds, congestion and crying babies. But thanks to new online service Social Flights [1], it is now.
According to the New York Times‘ technology blog [2], Social Flights allows you to organize affordable travel on private jets with your friends through your social networks like Twitter, LinkedIn or Facebook. Depending on location, luxury and number of passengers, transportation costs can be as little as $400. If you’re flexible to last-minute plans, you also can pay as little as $150 to fill empty spots on strangers’ flights.
Launched from Smyrna, Tenn. in February, Social Flights is still streamlining their business. CEO Jay Deragon says his company uses game theory to match travel groups with the most practical timing and pricing for their flights. While you may have to wait for a Social Flights representative to coordinate your travel details, you still the satisfaction of knowing there won’t be a security line standing between you and your next flight.
