The Library of the Future

Next week the University of Chicago will open its doors to the Joe and Rika Mansueto Library. This futuristic $25-million library was gift from UChicago alum and Inc. owner, Joe Mansueto, and his wife Rika.
From the outside the library, designed by Helmut Jahn, looks like half-buried crystal egg covered in 700 panels of glass and offers a 8,000-square-feet reading room. Beneath it is a 50-foot storage area that can hold 3.5 million volumes. The collection is operated by a robotic system that will find any requested book available.
