While guests were not allowed to tweet [1] at the royal nuptials, Windsor enthusiasts and curious fans around the world used other technological advances to watch Prince William and Catherine Middleton’s wedding ceremony live this morning. Mashable reported [2] that at 6 a.m. the ceremony drew a record-breaking 300,000 concurrent viewers on Livestream [3].
Two million unique viewers were expected to tune in before the broadcast ended. Akamai [4], another network hosting major online news sites, also reported record-high levels of concurrent live streams.
Akamai-hosted news sites delivering wedding content saw 4.6 million page views per minute during the event. This number surpassed the total for the United States’ election night in 2008, but fell short of this record set during simultaneous World Cup and Wimbledon matches last June.
